StarStreet Precinct——The Creative Block Hide Inside of HK Island

For a new visitor here in Hong Kong , you may never find this covert district without recommendation or Google Map, cause it is indeed a ‘secret garden’ which only known by ‘insiders’.

Under a local’s guide, we finally got close to this so called ‘creative zone’ with our lens. Located behind the skyscrapers and busy streets of Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island, Star Street Precinct is  a quiet block. Along the street gathered plenty of well-designed stores, most of which aims at middle-class customers and sells unique stuff from all over the globe, such as Northern Europe. For consumers, Star Street is a symbol of ‘good design’ and provide a kind of shopping experience like ‘treasure-seeking’ that differs from big malls. For sellers and artists, it is a potential commercial area and a wonderland to show their ideas.

Today, Starsteet Precinct, known for its synergetic blend of old and new, becomes a quirky community of culture, creativity and the arts. Combining Star Street and the adjoining lanes, Starstreet Precinct is lined with stylish galleries, chic furniture outlets, cosy cafes and flagship restaurants.’ (from http://www.starstreet.com.hk/the-cultural-precinct/)

Dance Above The Golden Wheat——The New Production By Cloud Gate Dance Theatre

‘Asia’s leading contemporary dance theatre.’ —— The Times, UK

‘A sharply moving synthesis of man and nature, east and west, death and rebirth… Lin’s own song of the earth’ —— The Guardian, UK

On the occasion of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of  Taiwan’s 40th anniversary, internationally renowned LIN Hwai-min,who  just received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Dance Festival, has created a dance, RICE, demonstrating the original oriental culture as well as the relationship between human, earth and nature. A small village called ‘Chi Shang’ of eastern Taiwan Island is the inspiration source of Lin’s new dance, where is famous for its high-quality rice and keeps on the traditional agriculture of Taiwan.

‘This is not Cloud Gate’s first visit to Hong Kong and there are lots of arts events in Hong Kong each week, so why should we watch Cloud Gate and how can we in Hong Kong understand Lin Hwai-min’s work?……I believe this interest is related to the thirst for land that permeates Hong Kong society.’ —— Lucy Lu, Director of Kwang Hwa Information and Culture Centre.

Now this extraordinary art work is invited by the New Vision Art Festival of Hong Kong during October, and it will be showed up to audience at this golden Autumn.
